Originally a design hand-woven in pure silk for a child’s kaftan of the last quarter of the 16th century and believed to be worn by the princes of Murad III (1574-1595). Only 71.5 cm in length it has short sleeves and the front is cut on the diagonal as with all traditional kaftans. Inventory number 13/265 from the Royal Wardrobe Collection, Topkapi Palace, Istanbul.
Fabric History


A bold ogival lattice pattern which is staggered with floral decorated boarders. The inner medallion is surrounded by tulips and leaves and consists of a symmetrical leaf design capped by a carnation.
